Cold front to plunge temps in Kerr County for extended period next week

Cold in Kerr

In its situation report today, the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Forecast Office has said a cold front arriving Sunday will bring the coldest weather this season to Kerr County and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.

The prolonged stretch of cold weather will be characterized by sub-freezing temperatures each night, followed by daytime highs in the mid- to high-40s.

Models also show increasing chances for precipitation from mid-week to late next week, but the exact timing, amount and the type of precipitation -- rain or some frozen form of precipitation -- will depend on the extent of the sub-freezing temperatures, the NWS team said.

As such, the NWS team cautioned people to NOT share social media posts that feature individual weather models of extreme scenarios. Please keep in mind, the NWS team said, that details of this system will be released by the National Weather Service as they become fine-tuned over the next few days.

"Please take the necessary steps now to keep people, pets and plants safe and warm, as well as to preserve the integrity of water pipes," said Kerr County Emergency Coordinator William B. "Dub" Thomas.

"We will post updates next week as possible, but I also encourage everyone to stay up-to-date on weather forecasts specific to Kerr County as this system progresses," he said.

Attached are some slides from the NWS' status report today. They cover the temperature swings, the chances for precipitation and even some tips on how to properly dress for chilly, cold and extreme cold conditions.
