Performing a Prescribed Burn?

You MUST File a New Plan!

Kerr County requires those planning to perform a prescribed burn to file a formal, completed plan that is in accordance with any of the 3 free, blank PDF forms offered in the buttons below.

BEFORE a prescribed burn, notification must be given to the following:

  • The Kerr County Sheriff's Office (non-emergency dispatch)

  • The nearest Local Volunteer Fire Department to the property

  • The Texas Forest Service, and the

  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), formerly the TNRCC

The two local entities -- the Kerr County Sheriff's Office and the nearest local fire department -- should be notified of the intention to burn two times:

  1. Once on the DAY BEFORE the planned burn, and,

  2. Again, as confirmation of plans to proceed, on the MORNING OF THE PRESCRIBED BURN.

***IMPORTANT NOTE: A new burn plan must be submitted by a certified burn manager before every single prescribed burn event -- updated with signatures, dates, times, expected weather and humidity conditions, etc.

*** A Burn Plan May Not Be Reused! ***

More details on prescribed burns, including mapping, smoke management, fuel moisture, weather conditions, post-burn reports, useful cellphone apps and more, are offered on the Prescribed Burn Alliance of Texas website.
