Most County Offices to Close Monday, Sept. 4, for Labor Day Holiday
Most Kerr County, Texas, offices and departments will be closing on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of the federal holiday, Labor Day.
The one-day closure will affect those departments in the Kerr County Courthouse, located at 700 Main Street in Kerrville, as well as those at the West Kerr County Courthouse Annex, 510 College Street in Ingram.
While most county employees will be observing the holiday, citizens are reassured that there will be no interruption in emergency services, including those provided by law enforcement, fire and EMS.
Business hours will resume as usual on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
After Labor Day, the next holiday to be observed by the local county government will be Columbus Day on Oct. 9.
Labor Day celebrates and recognizes the American labor movement, as well as the works and contributions made by laborers to the development and achievement of the United States. The first Labor Day holiday was observed on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union.
In 1894, Congress passed a bill recognizing the first Monday of September as Labor Day and making it a holiday for federal workers. All U.S. states and territories now observe Labor Day as a statutory holiday.
