Kerr County Officials Participate In, Host Cowboy Breakfast at Courthouse to Kick Off Stock Show Season
Before daybreak on Tuesday, Jan. 2, local county and city elected officials, 4-H and FFA students, their parents and supporters all gathered to mark the return of the annual Cowboy Breakfast to the grounds of the Kerr County Courthouse, 700 Main Street in Kerrville.
The annual event featuring a breakfast with coffee and orange juice offered such highlights as a cow chip toss contest and a goat milking contest to the amusement of participants and those watching from the crowd gathered around the flatbed trailer at the center of the action.
Kerr County commissioners and Kerrville City Council members competed in the Cow Chip Toss. After a three-way tie between Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha and Kerrville City Council members Jeff Harris and Brenda Hughes, there was a toss-off and Harris prevailed.
In the goat milking contest, the partnership between Security State Bank and Trust's David Vann and the Kerrville Daily Times' Chelsea Fore won after their yield of milk measured about 1" at the end of the 60-seconds of milking.
Rounds of project animal judging start bright and early Wednesday, Jan. 3, and will continue through Friday, Jan. 5. The county show will culminate in a 1 p.m. sale on Saturday, Jan. 6.
