Kerr County posts 11th case of rabies for the year
Another positive case of rabies – the 11th such case this year – has now been confirmed by lab testing for Kerr County.
“We were advised on Monday about an ill fox at a residence on Roy Street in Kerrville,” said Reagan Givens, director of Kerr County Animal Services. An animal control officer was dispatched to the scene, collected the animal and sent a specimen to the zoological lab for testing the same day the call came in, Givens added.
“We received word this morning (May 8) that the fox was infected with rabies,” he added. There was no known exposure to the animal by humans or family pets.
“The high number of cases this year just underlines the importance for everyone to make sure their family pets are vaccinated against this deadly, viral disease,” Givens said.
Anyone who spots an animal acting like it is sick, over-friendly or otherwise abnormally is asked to make a note of its physical description, its exact location, which direction it is headed if it is on the move and then call that information into the KCAS office at 830-257-3100.
Additionally, Givens said they advise the public to avoid contact with and feeding of wild animals, including stray dogs and cats.
