Kerr County puts countywide burn ban in effect

Burnban

As Kerr County residents and their guests were preparing this week to ring in the New Year 2025, county commissioners informed of the current hazardous weather outlook decided to implement a countywide burn ban Monday morning, Dec. 30.

The ban on open-flame, open-air burning is now in effect in Kerr County Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 until further notice.

“Conditions are just too dry and windy right now for us to ignore,” said Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, noting that the National Weather Service on Monday issued a Red Flag Warning that covered Kerr County and much of the Texas Hill Country.

The legal sales of fireworks is continuing, the judge confirmed. The statutory time period to limit the use of aerial fireworks has expired, and conditions have worsened.

“As it is right now, we have critical conditions for the spread of wildfires in our area,” Kelly said.

“The public is encouraged to exercise caution, voluntary restraint and sound judgment in any and all use of fireworks during these windy conditions,” he said.
