Local military veterans who have a pair of combat boots are being asked by the Kerr County Veterans Service Office to loan them out for a special tribute planned during the local Memorial Day program on Monday, May 25.

Last year was the first year the display was featured, and it served as a very powerful and moving visual homage to those military members who gave their lives in service to the United States of America.

“We have planned this display to recognize the Kerr County service members who died in conflicts ranging from present day on back to as far as World War I,” said Kerr County Veterans Service Officer Jenna Sanchez.

“Last yea, the community response was overwhelmingly positive,” she said. “Because of its success and the meaningful impact it had on attendees, our office hopes to create a similar installation again this year.”

Needed are 90 pairs of combat boots. On the morning of Memorial Day, before the public program, they will be placed in formation near the Kerr County War Memorial on the courthouse grounds, 700 Main Street in Kerrville.

In addition to combat boots, the Kerr County VSO also is requesting 20 pairs of men’s and women’s cowboy boots. These will be incorporated into the display to honor the proud Texas heritage of our veterans, highlighting both their service to the nation and their connection to the traditions of our state.

All boots loaned to the VSO will be cared for and then returned to their rightful owners after the program.

Anyone willing to loan a pair of combat or cowboy boots is encouraged to contact the Kerr County Veterans Service Office by calling 830-792-2203 or drop the shoes off in person at the office in the Allie Burton Annex, 550 Earl Garrett Street in Kerrville. The office, located in Suite 107, is open Mondays through Thursdays.

“We’re relying on our community of veterans to help us make this tribute to local veterans special,” Sanchez said. “With your help, we will be able to move forward with this meaningful tribute – ensuring that the sacrifices of Kerr County’s fallen heroes are honored and remembered.”
