Veterans in need offered assistance through Silver Sage

As part of its duty to help connect U.S. military veterans with federal and state benefits they have earned and are due, the Kerr County Veterans Service Office is always on the lookout for veterans in need.

“We encounter many veterans and/or surviving spouses of veterans who are in need of financial assistance,” said Kerr County VSO Jenna Sanchez. “Luckily, we have Silver Sage, which offers help thanks to grant funding from the Texas Veterans Commission.”

Anyone who knows a veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran who is struggling to meet everyday needs is asked to call the Kerr County VSO at 830-792-2203 or Silver Sage directly by calling 830-328-6355 or emailing victor@silversage.org.

Certain eligibility criteria must be met, so it is recommended to allow the Kerr County VSO office or Silver Sage to assist with the application.

Some things Silver Sage funding can help with are:

  • Mortgage payment/rent

  • Utilities

  • Food

  • Transportation

  • Funeral costs

  • Assistive Technologies

  • Restorative dental work

In the previous year, Silver Sage has helped 19 local veterans and 3 surviving spouses financially – to the tune of about $18,823.

Silver Sage helped a dozen veterans/surviving spouses with rent ($10,097), six people received help paying their utility bills ($1,160), three were helped with their mortgage payments ($4,072), two were helped with food ($175), one was helped with his/her car payment ($365) and one received help with auto insurance ($1,160).
